Training Youth - Souled Out
SOULED OUT 2004
The Souled Out 2004 summer course was a very special time for
everyone. In the midst of all the excitement and
activities – football, swimming, ten pin
bowling, and various outings- we experienced
lively worship, challenging talks, and good
times of fellowship together.
Andy spoke to us about the early Church,
described in Acts 2: 42-47. We saw a Christian
community who filled their minds with God’s
truth and who shared their lives with God and
each other. They prayed, praised, ate and
remembered Jesus’ death together. And Andy
reminded us that as they did these
things, God made their times together
awesome (v.43), wonderful (v.43), and places
where others became Christians too (v.47). This
was the Church and people loved to belong to it!
Also David Ollerton asked us the question, ‘What
is Church?’ Answer? People not buildings. David
soon encouraged us to dream dreams. What would
happen if we as young leaders devoted ourselves
to seeing the Church work as it should?
In this summer’s course, it became clear to
us that Souled Out needed to develop and become
more than what it was at present. In addition to
the summer course and New Year reunion, we
agreed that Souled Out should also develop into
a network of friends sharing the same vision.
And so we agreed on the idea of 4 regional
groups, meeting on a regular basis for social
fun and spiritual input. We also decided to
start producing a quarterly newsletter in order
to share the latest news. And so as we take this
new step together, we look forward to seeing all
that the Lord has in store for us.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
Since the summer, each regional group have been meeting regularly
to eat, worship, learn and pray together. It’s
been a real blessing to be able to meet and grow
in our understanding of what it means to be
disciples of Jesus. Several newsletters have
also been produced. These have been a great way
of reminding us the reason why we meet, as well
as keeping everybody in touch.
There was an opportunity in January for everyone to join together
again for the Souled Out Reunion. Over twenty
we're able to return, and we also welcomed a few
new faces. Everyone was certainly challenged by
the theme - You were created to be like Christ -
and it was a great way to start the new year!
